Affiliate Marketing: A Joint Venture Between Merchants and Affiliates

Affiliate marketing is an ever growing business on the internet. It is made possible by a joint venture between a merchant and an affiliate. Through the years, it has become very well-known, especially to those who want to earn extra income with their websites. People usually associate affiliate marketing with selling and advertising. These two are definitely important in this business. However, individuals should understand that there is a lot to learn in order to become successful as an affiliate.

 

Basically, affiliate marketing is a joint venture between two parties. These are the merchants and the affiliates. Each one has its own function in order make affiliate marketing work. A third party which might be involved is the affiliate network. This network serves as the medium in order to deliver the offers and campaigns of the merchants and possibly even pay the affiliates.

The affiliate network is responsible for collecting the commission fees, which will be given to the affiliates, from the merchant. Furthermore, this is favorable to the merchant because he does not have to pay for the marketing efforts of the affiliate until a sale is made. Meaning to say, if there is no sale, then there is no payment.

In affiliate marketing, the merchant can be anyone who owns a website and believes that performance based marketing has great advantages. Many merchants indulge in this because the benefits that it gives are countless. Merchants have the freedom to operate and maintain the affiliate program in whatever manner they choose. However it is wise to run the affiliate program in a manner that is pleasing to affiliates. If done right, the income and profit could be tremendous. In addition to determining how much commission is to be earned and how much is paid, merchants are also responsible for supplying affiliates with promotional materials such as banners and promotional email content.

Affiliates also benefit from this arrangement as well. In order to earn money, the affiliate can bypass the time consuming process of creating or stocking a product. The affiliate need not be concerned with making banners and other advertising creatives. The affiliate can instead just focus upon making websites with the content provided, and then drive traffic to that site to earn money. Once the site is up and getting traffic, the sales can continue to come in for months to come from just a little upfront effort. Additionally, one can be an affiliate for a number of different merchants at the same time which will further increase the opportunities for earning more income.

Affiliate marketing is a joint venture which is beneficial to both parties if done correctly.
